My First Gallery Showing: The Largest Small Works Show in Sausalito
I’m beyond thrilled to share that one of my artworks was included in Gallery Sausalito’s Largest Small Works Show in June 2024—the largest exhibition of its kind in Sausalito’s history. Over 65 artists from across the country were represented, with more than 50 pieces of art on display, all created on 12x12 canvas or metal. Most of the submissions were paintings, and only two photographers were featured—so it was truly an honor to have my work included.
The piece chosen was one of my film soup photographs of the Golden Gate Bridge, a subject that feels close to home as a Bay Area artist living in Tiburon, California. To see it hanging on the gallery walls alongside so many talented artists was surreal and deeply exciting.
Although I’ve been a portrait photographer for over 15 years, creating artwork for galleries is still very new to me. For the past three years, I’ve been developing my unique process of film soup photography, an analog technique that transforms 35mm film with botanicals, saltwater, and natural elements. Having this piece selected marked an important first step into the gallery world—one that I hope leads to more opportunities to share my art with a wider audience.
Being part of this show was not just an honor, but also a milestone: a moment of stepping out of client work and into something personal, experimental, and meant to be lived with as art. Sausalito has such a rich artistic history, and to have my first gallery experience here feels like the perfect beginning.
